Will You Have Enough?

I had what most wanted.  Being the only boy in a family of five had its perks — my own room.  This gift came with its obvious blessings and a curse.  As soon as the sun set, fear began to creep its way into my mind and heart.   Convinced I would be the next kidnapping victim, I dreaded bedtime when I had to go to my room and await my fate — alone.

When was the last time you felt lonely?

Loneliness has plagued me daily since I was a child.  Often, I’ve allowed accomplishments and financial gain to bring relief.

What do you use to cope?

Hebrews 13:5 states, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”  While the fruit may be the love of money and discontentment, the author is saying what’s actually going on underneath is a belief we are alone.

What do you use as an antidote?

The author of Hebrews reveals to us the cure to the love of money - an awareness of the presence of God.  Indeed, we are not alone.  This is great news!

Hebrews 13:6 continues: “So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’”

When we’ve found the Lord, we are content.  Lord, You are enough.
