The Power of Vinegar

“You smell like a gym bag,” a friend muttered to me as we hugged goodbye.

When I first started taking over the responsibility of washing my own clothes, my transition process from washer to dryer lacked a sense of urgency; the waiting period, a time or two, may have even been longer than day — yikes!  Naturally, mold began to grow and my clothes developed an aroma which my friend gracefully compared to the fragrance of a gym bag.

Like mold, haste is also stinky.  Making big decisions in a hurry, often, leaves a mess for the decision maker and the people in their wake to clean up.  Whether it was the spur of the moment car purchase or the times I choose to stop by the donut shop for breakfast, I’ve learned haste has hidden fees.

If you are new to Christian Wealth Management, we are fans of Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps.  Why?  Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps act as haste repellent.  While haste possesses the ability to break something down faster than it took to build, the Baby Steps demand a slow and steady approach. This allows a healthy pace to be set in our financial life as we run towards the goals that are most important.

In my pursuit of having a stronger, healthier financial life for myself and my clients, I enjoy using the Baby Steps to guide financial decisions.  In my pursuit of wanting nice smelling clothes, I’ve learned a trick — pour a cup of white vinegar in each load to kill any existing mold.

Like white vinegar on mold, haste dies in submission to the Baby Steps.

Proverbs 19:2 Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.
