Shivers Down My Spine

It was one of those experiences in life that left a lasting impression on me.  I was attending a three-day conference in Florida for Christian financial advisors.  There were 1,500 advisors from across the States and from different financial firms attending the conference, but we all had one thing in common: our faith.

This conference was like many business conferences I’ve been to with its motivating plenary speakers, informative breakout sessions, and corporate-sponsored lunches, with one exception: this conference included worship music.  The music team led us in songs of worship throughout the conference, but there was a worship experience that stood above the rest for me.

The worship leader invited us to stand and sing Amazing Grace.  The 1,500 attendees in the conference hall instantly became an acapella choir as we raised our voices in unison towards heaven.  Chills ran up and down my spine.  I came to the conference to be professionally fed, but I was being spiritually led.

Incorporating our faith into our daily lives can be a challenge, whether it be in our jobs, our families, our friends, our entertainment, and even our finances.  It is eye-opening that the Bible has around 500 verses on prayer and on faith, but more than 2,000 verses on money.  Deuteronomy 8:18 reads, “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.”  Obviously, the Lord wants us to incorporate our faith into our finances!

I can’t carry a tune, but it didn’t stop me from singing Amazing Grace with passion!  In the same way, let’s all be passionate about incorporating our faith into our daily lives, including our investments.  And, as our daily lives meld into eternity, let’s look forward to that day “When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise, than when we first begun.”
