Saying Thank You

We thanked them, and they thanked us.   It was a moment of mutual thankfulness.   My wife and I were riding our bikes to raise money for the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho.  It was for a good cause, and we like to ride our bikes.  The 100-kilometer ride was held on a Saturday morning and there were several refreshment-stands along the way.  Each stand was staffed by volunteers, including those who were blind.  My wife made it a point of stopping at each stand and thanking the volunteers as they provided us with bananas, Fig Newtons, water, and Gatorade, replenishing our bodies and spirits.  The volunteers also took the opportunity to thank us for raising money and awareness for their cause.  It was a nice feeling to hear those kind words.

In Proverbs 16:24 we read, “Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”  Just as honey is pleasing to taste and beneficial for the body, the right words are a blessing to hear.  Let’s all remember to say thank you in the daily endeavors of life.  Those words may bless someone more than you think, bringing refreshment to their spirits in time of need.

For readers in Idaho, the “Cycle for Independence” ride is held annually in late May in Boise and includes a 10-mile, 25-mile, or 100-kilometer (62 miles) ride with an entry fee of $50.   Put it on your calendar for next year.   The money raised is used in part to fund a youth camp for the blind in the summer, to help them learn to navigate life.  Check out cycleforindependence.org and nfbidaho.org to learn more.  Thank you!
