Planning for Retirement?

Read Time / 2 Minutes

Theme / Retirement Planning

While we plan for many things in life, our plans can take on different timeframes and magnitudes.  We may plan for what we want for dinner, where we go on vacation, and when we want to retire.  Undoubtedly, planning for retirement is a larger, more strategic, effort than deciding on tacos or spaghetti for dinner.

The Bible speaks about planning, offering both an earthly and a heavenly perspective.  On one hand, in Psalm 90:12 we read, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”  On the other hand, Proverbs 16:3 encourages us to “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”  Therefore, we should plan strategically for the future but entrust our plans to the Lord.

We should take the same approach for planning for retirement.  1,000 pre-retirees were asked where they needed the most help in planning for retirement, and the results highlighted three areas: estimating how many years assets will last, developing a specific plan for withdrawals, and creating a comprehensive plan to generate income (LIMRA 2016 survey).  To summarize, the main concern of pre-retirees was to have enough income to live comfortably for the rest of their lives.

We can all relate, but what is the solution?  The answer is found in planning and prayer: developing a comprehensive plan for income in retirement (the “number our days” part) and giving it to the Lord in prayer (the “commit to the Lord” part).  At Christian Wealth Management we can help you with both the earthly and heavenly parts.  We have the tools to help you set up a plan for retirement while praying for the Lord’s blessing.
