Praying for Financial Provision

I think one of the neglected parts of prayer life for most people is praying for financial health for their family. Particularly, financial provision. I’ve written before about the difference between the love of money, and money; I find that people get the two mixed up in their prayer life as well. First and foremost, we should be praying for financial provision. Prayer is the opportunity to have honest conversations with God. If our financial life is a stressor, The Bible says we should be praying for peace in it.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

- Philippians 4:6, ESV

Likewise, prayer is the key to provision:

“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened”

- Matthew 7:8, ESV

However, it is important to frame what financial provision means. Provision, in a financial sense, means we have enough to cover what we NEED. Not necessarily everything we desire. Praying for provision doesn’t mean asking for a winning lottery ticket (but wouldn’t that be nice?), it means the Lord gives us exactly as much as we need
