3 Ways To Become More Grateful
There is only one way to eat an elephant.
Walking into the gym is intimidating. There are more weight machines and exercise equipment available to use than articles of clothing in my closet. The countless options of how to reveal to the world I’m weaker than I look is overwhelming. Since lifting weights isn’t my thing, I knew if I wanted to reap the benefits of strengthening my body, I was going to need help.
Exercise has a positive impact on our bodies, and gratitude strengthens our relationships (according to an article published by Harvard Health). If you are anything like me, my outlook on life is not always positive. So, what is one to do when they aren’t feeling grateful and their spirit is weak? Though a gratitude journal seems to be Amazon’s choice to increased gratitude, I’m going to offer my workout for your speculation.
This workout focuses on giving. The sets are as follows:
Time
Emotions
Money
These three resources are extremely valuable, and we know that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,” (Matthew 6:21). When I serve the youth at church, buy someone’s coffee, or offer a listening ear to someone hurting, it resets my perspective on what’s important in life, which is to love God and love people.
It’s normal to be overwhelmed when we see the gap between where we want to be and where we are. Often, the elephant seems impossible to eat.
I’m glad I asked for help. It brought me a new friend, who’s teaching me about breaking up work out days into push, pull, & legs. In the same way, breaking our giving into time, emotions, and money with regularity can strengthen our gratitude muscle.
So, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
